From the outside, New England churches look picturesque and quaint. But on the inside, pulpits that once heralded the gospel and led the way to spiritual awakening in this country now pander to universalism, liberalism, and postmodernism. Influential colleges like Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, originally founded to train men to proclaim spiritual light, now lead the way into spiritual darkness.
As a result, this area of the country, once served by unapologetic evangelists like Jonathan Edwards and George Whitfield, has become parched. According to the Glenmary Research center, aside from Utah, New England currently has the lowest percentage of evangelical church attendance in the United States. By all accounts, New England today represents an "unreached people group" - a nation within a nation without the gospel and without hope.
